Clarence Blalock announces candidacy for Labor Commissioner

Clarence Blalock announces candidacy for Democratic Nomination for Labor Commissioner.

After encouragement from prominent Democrats and labor advocates, Clarence Blalock has filed papers to run for GA Labor Commissioner.

While Georgia touts itself as a great state to do business, it remains an awful state to be a worker. As an “at will” state, workers can be fired for discriminatory reasons with little to no recourse.  Those transitioning between jobs have little protection and are forced to navigate overly complicated systems that are supposed to be there to help them.

“Under Republican control, the Labor Department has become a bureaucratic nightmare, seemingly designed to make it as difficult as possible for Georgians to receive the benefits they’re earned through their hard work.

“This is a vitally important office for EVERYONE employed in Georgia.  When elected, I’ll modernize the office so that it’s fair, efficient and designed to help workers get and keep high-quality jobs throughout the state.

“Workers in Georgia are falling behind while corporate profits soar.  Everyone working 40+ hours a week should expect to be able to buy a home, put food on the table, pay their bills, and provide a quality education for their children.  We used to have that, and I plan to use this position as a soapbox to advocate for workers so that they are properly compensated for the wealth they create.  That’s good for workers, it’s good for corporations, and it’s good for Georgia’s economy,” said Blalock.
